Studying in Germany
Germany is one of the most popular study destinations in the world for international students. Most public universities charge no tuition fees, degrees are respected worldwide, and graduates benefit from one of Europe's strongest job markets.
Entry Requirements:
Bachelor's Programs: You need a secondary school certificate that is recognised in Germany. Depending on your country and grades, you may first need a one-year foundation course (Studienkolleg). Most bachelor's programs are taught in German, so German language skills are usually required.
Master's Programs: You need a relevant bachelor's degree. Hundreds of master's programs are taught fully in English and accept IELTS or TOEFL.
Application Process:
Many universities accept applications through uni-assist, while others use their own online portals. The main deadlines are usually 15 July for the winter semester (starting in October) and 15 January for the summer semester (starting in April), but always check the deadline for each program.
University System:
Universities focus on research and academic study, while Universities of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschulen) are more practical and career-focused, with internships built into many programs. Bachelor's degrees usually take 3 years, master's degrees 2 years, and PhDs 3 to 5 years.

Student Opportunities
Student Visa: Students from outside the EU need a German national student visa. You will need a university admission letter, health insurance and proof of funds, usually through a blocked account (Sperrkonto). For 2026, the required amount is €11,904 per year (€992 per month).
Tuition Fees and Scholarships: Most public universities in Germany charge no tuition fees; students pay only a semester contribution, usually a few hundred euros. The state of Baden-Württemberg charges non-EU students tuition. DAAD and many foundations offer scholarships for international students.
Student Life: German university cities are safe, international and well connected, with active student unions, sports clubs and excellent public transport.
Work Opportunities: International students can work up to 140 full days or 280 half days per year. After graduating, you can apply for an 18-month residence permit to look for a job in Germany.
We will help you choose the right university, prepare your application and guide you through the visa process step by step.
Accommodation and Living Costs in Germany
Living costs in Germany are moderate compared with many Western European countries. The monthly amount required in the student blocked account (€992 per month in 2026) is a good guide to a typical student budget.
Accommodation Options: Student residences run by the local Studierendenwerk are usually the cheapest option, but places are limited, so apply early. Shared flats (WG) are very popular with students.
Costs of Accommodation: Expect roughly €300 to €450 per month for a room in a student residence, and more in large cities such as Munich, Frankfurt or Hamburg.
Food and Groceries: Around €200 to €250 per month. University canteens (Mensa) offer affordable meals.
Transportation: At many universities, the semester contribution includes a public transport ticket for your city or region.
Health Insurance: Health insurance is mandatory for all students. Public student health insurance costs roughly €140 per month.
Costs vary by city, so always check the latest figures with your university. We will help you plan a realistic budget.
